The week of Sept. 21 – 28 is Michigan Trails Week and that makes for a great excuse to get out on the many trails in Flint & Genesee and enjoy nature as the seasons change.
For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum
For-Mar features some of the most beautiful trails in the county. With miles of trails perfect for hiking with plenty of nature to take in along the way. As the leaves change and the air cools, you can take in this expansive nature preserve and feel refreshed and relaxed when you finally decide to leave.
The 105-acre park is perfect for a hike and offers year-round fun as well. The walking path is surrounded by woodland where nature will offer all you can handle, and the Flint River will be close enough to hear. The park features a large pavilion, expansive playscape, and a space for the dogs to run around.
This beautiful park offers a two-mile walking trail and features a grand bridge that crosses the Flint River.
Flushing Township Nature Park
Located in Flushing Township and featuring a beautiful view of the Flint River it serves as a great place to take a casual hike surrounded by nature at its best.
Chevy Commons is a new park near downtown Flint and the initial part of it offers a long trail that takes you by the Flint River. In the coming years, the park will be expanded and refined and be the first State Park in Genesee County.
Mundy Miracle Commons is home to 99 acres of woodlands, and wetlands, and features a barrier-free ball field. The trail winds through heavily wooded land and will let you slow down from a long day.
Stepping Stone Falls offers a view of C.S. Mott Lake and the waterfalls that were built to enhance the area. There is a long path that leads from the falls through the woods, across two bridges and ends in a parking lot, and with very active wildlife it’s worth the journey.
Clio City Park
Clio City Park is home to the Clio Amphitheater and a long trail that leads through the park and along the river at certain points. The path is paved and lengthy and offers nice views of the woods and river along the way.
If you’re looking for something a little longer you can try the Flint River Trail, which starts on Genesee Road and ends in Richfield Park. The path will take just under three hours and while it is considered an “easy” hike it will certainly get your blood pumping. If you’d like something a little longer, the trail connects to a trail system that is approximately 27 miles long and winds around the river, through parks and neighborhoods in the county.
Flint & Genesee is home to robust parks and extensive trails and will offer plenty of opportunities to spend time reconnecting with nature. There is plenty to explore, get exploring today.
