Anthony is a product of Genesee County, born at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, and raised in Davison. He began his career with Genesee County Parks in his early 20s, after working in a factory. When that job ended, he found a position at the parks, and what he thought would be a fun summer job became his career and passion.
Anthony became a CTA when the parks were hosting a training course, and he thought it’d be a great opportunity to learn more about the region and his community. “I was getting more involved, especially with the parks and with Wolverine Campground, and things were kind of expanding there with tourism, so the CTA program was directly related to my field.” As he learned more about Genesee County through his CTA pre-reading, he discovered the area's rich history and felt more connected to his home.
His passion for the program led to Anthony being awarded CTA of the Year for 2025 at the Flint & Genesee Group’s “Art of Achievement Awards.”
“I was actually surprised and shocked,” he says.
What is something other CTAs may not know about you?
I think what other CTAs may not know about me is that I spend a lot of my time in the parks, not as a visitor necessarily, but as an employee. I think I have visited almost all the Genesee County parks. You hear about people being passionate about parks, and I'm fully ingrained in that now.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I'm an outdoorsman and enjoy fishing. I also like spending time with family, traveling up north, and just relaxing. And I must mention that I enjoy doing what my girlfriend likes, such as shopping, going to craft fairs, and spending time outdoors.
What is your favorite part of being a CTA in Flint & Genesee?
I think it’s an honor to be a CTA in Genesee County. My favorite part has been the relationships I have built in the community, sharing information that people generally don't know about in Genesee and the Flint area.
What is your favorite hidden gem in the area?
I don't know if it's so much hidden anymore, but Bluegill Boat Launch has become more than just a boat launch: The area also offers a two-and-a-half mile stretch of paved ADA compliant trail along the shoreline, which continues all the way to Stepping Stone Falls & Picnic Area as part of the Flint River Trail, kayaking, with kayak rentals, and a day-use pavilion. I've been directly involved in many of those projects over the years and have witnessed Blue Gill's evolution into a multi-use recreational facility with convenient access to get your boat on the water and more. What’s really nice is that Mott Lake is mostly untouched, where Blue Gill is located, with no houses around. When you visit, it feels like you’re up north when you are just down the road. I'm also excited to see Genesee County Parks’ Youth Programs enjoying Bluegill. Bluegill Boat Launch, to me, is probably the best hidden gem because it's right in everyone's backyard.
