Celebrating 250 Years in Flint & Genesee

History is alive throughout Flint & Genesee, and during the 250th birthday celebrations for America, there is no finer time to rediscover it all. During this time of celebration, you can pick up a Genesee County Celebrates America 250 passbook, and if you get it stamped by September 30 at one of the participating locations, you will receive your commemorative token. Enjoy these wonderful attractions and historic places while earning your Passbook stamps.

Flint

Flint offers many opportunities to get your passbook filled, and while you’re in town, you’ll want to stop and get something to eat. If you fancy barbecue, then you can head to Blackstone’s Smokehouse or to Churchill’s Food & Spirits for a great meal and a drink. If you’re looking for something a little elevated, you can go to Cork on Saginaw. For more casual dining, there is Halo Burger and Soriano’s Mexican Kitchen. There is also the Flint Crepe Company, Hoffman’s Deli, the White Horse Tavern, the Torch, Soggy Bottom, Sauce Italian American Kitchen, On the Bricks Food and Spirits, and Palette Café at the Flint Institute of Arts + Art School. 

Flint Township

Flint Township also offers a wide variety of food options that will satisfy most tastes. There is Italia Gardens, Twisted Burger Diner, the Tangy Crab, Scratch BBQ, Sagano Sushi & Hibachi Steakhouse, and Freakin’ Unbelievable Burger to name a few.

3rd Friday of the Month (May to October) | Applewood: The Charles Stewart Mott Estate 
The estate welcomes the public to tour the grounds and take part in hands-on activities.  

May 1-September 30 | Daughters of the American Revolution 
Take a guided tour and hear a lecture on Revolutionary War Patriots buried in Genesee County at Glenwood Cemetery.  

May 30-October 18 | Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School 
Here you will find the Spirit of Independence: Bicentennial Portfolio, Born in the U.S.A.: American Studio Glass, and American Art: Abstraction and Pop Workshop.  

May-September | Stockton House Museum 
This historic home will offer several events to celebrate the nation’s birthday. 

June 13 | Flint Township
Flint Township will celebrate America’s 250 with a parade and family celebration at Shea Automotive Group.  

June 20 | The Sankofa Project for Social Justice, LLC 
Take part in a workshop and presentation exploring isolation and intersectionality in pursuit of justice.  

July 4 | Flint Institute of Music 
Come to downtown Flint on July 4 for a rousing patriotic concert and festival featuring music and fireworks.  

July 4 | Paul Emery Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution 
Enjoy a reenactment of the reading of the Declaration of Independence at this event.  

July 11 | Glenwood Historical Cemetery and Arboretum 
Dine with the dead at this event and celebrate the many historical figures from Genesee County’s past. 

July 14 | Gloria Coles Flint Public Library 
The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library hosts this event with ice cream and music from the Genesee Valley Concert Band.  

June 5-September 27 | Sloan Museum of Discovery 
Tour the museum and revisit Flint and Genesee County history and enjoy this timeline-based exhibit.  

August 29 | Genesee County Parks/Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad 
This free event will feature entertainment, a parade, activities, and more as the Village celebrates its 50th anniversary and America’s 250th birthday. 

Genesee County Historical Society
The Historical Society will be presenting panel discussions, lectures, and storytelling about historic events.  

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 
This historic church will feature the Revolutionary Conversations series of conversations and town halls.  

Whaley Historical House Association Inc.  
There will be several events at the Whaley Historical House Museum; more information is available on their website.
