In Michigan, you tend to either love or tolerate winter. But with so much available fun in the area, now is the time to embrace the adventures the season offers.

Flint & Genesee is host to many beautiful parks and winter is a perfect time to explore them snowshoeing. Take in some of the area’s most lovely spaces as you make your way through the snow at Atlas County Park, Flushing County Park, Davison Roadside County Park, or several of Flint & Genesee’s other parks. Don’t know how to snowshoe? Head out to For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum on February 25 to learn the finer points of snowshoeing and see some of the sights while you are there.

If you’d like to get your adrenaline pumping, you can head out to Peabody Ice Climbing to tackle one of its two towers for a beginner experience. For the more experienced climbers, you can try some mixed climbing and dry tooling. You can flex your skills and try new techniques with your equipment there.

One activity many think of when they think of winter in Flint & Genesee is ice skating. There are plenty of local rinks in the area. Crystal Fieldhouse is a great place to try with open skating, drop-in hockey, and other offerings. Flint Iceland Arenas is another option worth looking into. You can also skate at Elms Park, and Physicians Park as well.

Something that brings you back to your childhood in the winter is sledding. Flint & Genesee has several options for you and your friends and family. From the large hill on the campus of Flint Southwestern Academy to the equally daunting hills of Linden County Park, or Toboggan Hill, at the edge of the county. Wherever you are, there are several options in our region.

Finally, for those looking for a little more of a rush, you can always take your snowmobile out for a ride. Several of our county parks offer 24-hour access for snowmobiles when there is three inches or more of snow. These spots include Linden County Park, Goldenrod Disc Golf Course, Richfield County Park, the Everett A. Cummings Event Center, and Bluegill Boat Launch.

Whatever your winter weather interest, Flint & Genesee has many great adventures.
