With the return of spring, it’s time to shake off the cobwebs and to get back out into the world. A perfect way to do that is by checking out live music at one of Flint & Genesee’s many venues. No matter what music moves you, there’s something for you.

If you are looking for something classical the Flint Symphony Chorus will be performing at St. Christopher’s on April 15 performing selections from Josef Rheinberger & George Frideric Handel. On Saturday, April 22nd you can find the Flint Symphony Orchestra playing selections from Schumann, Haydn, and Schubert at the FIM Whiting Auditorium with special guest pianist Fei-Fei.

If you’re more interested in some musical theater, then the University of Michigan-Flint’s Theater & Dance department may have just what you’re looking for with The Spitfire Grill March 31 – April 8. There will also be an orchestra concert held in the same space on the evening of April 13 and a jazz ensemble concert on the evening of April 18.

The FIM Capitol Theatre will bring out some classic rock with Evil Woman – The Electric Light Orchestra Experience on Friday, April 14. On April 20 you can laugh and dance during Jokes & Jams, featuring comedians with live performances by Twista and Louie Ray.

Fans of local music can always hit up downtown’s Flint Local 432 for everything from alternative rock to hip hop to heavy metal on Fridays and Saturdays with low-cost shows.

Flint’s Machine Shop is known for bringing in touring acts from across the nation and the world and April is a busy month. If you are looking for some classic heavy metal then Morbid Angel on April 6 may be what you need, and on April 8 there’s the Nu-Metal Madness Tour 2, featuring more modern metal acts. If you prefer country music on April 20 you can check out John Langston, or on April 27 you can see Tyler Booth. And for fans that want a tribute show, you can catch That Arena Rock Show featuring musical tributes to ‘70 and ’80s rock.

If you’d like a little dinner entertainment Blackstone’s Smokehouse has Delta Twins on April 8 and Dixon’s Violin on April 15. On April 19 Burger Bar & Tap has Justin Rose playing. Finally, Barry Clevenger will play at The Black Horse Tavern in Clio on April 12 and 26.

These are just some of the many live music performances happening in Flint & Genesee in April. Whatever your tastes may be, from hard rock to classical, it’s hard not to find something that will get you moving.
