With spring in full swing and summer slowly approaching, it means that festival season is upon us. There are many options to stay busy during the latter half of May, and you can do so in Flint & Genesee.

Covenant Hills welcomes the return of Lumberjack Days May 17-18. There are several Lumberjack Days dates this year, and not just in May in case you miss this first offering. Other dates are in June, August, and October. Visitors can make plans to come for the day on Saturday or stay over and camp on Friday and enjoy an evening and full day. On Friday, there will be a community bonfire in the evening, and on Saturday there will be lots to do and three meals during the day ending with a steak dinner.

On May 18, enjoy the Davison Farmers Market’s Mexican Food Truck Festival with multiple food trucks serving Mexican food. Grab a bite to eat before you hit up the market’s craft show, flea market flip, or just do a little shopping.

Back to the Bricks will bring its 4th Annual Dust ‘Em Off Car Show to the Dort Financial Center on May 19. This event offers over 1,200 classic and custom cars to browse and enjoy some classic rock music.

If you are looking for a little history, then Glenwood Cemetery: A Stroll Down Kearsley Street has just what you are looking for on May 19. Learn about the real people who helped to make Flint what it was and what it is today as their stories are told during a walk through Glenwood Cemetery led by storytellers and historians.

In Burton on May 25, you can enjoy the Burton Rock and Blues Fest at Burton Eagles #3814. From 12-10 p.m., you can spend the day listening to great music and enjoy drinks and snacks. Bring a lawn chair and spend the day rocking out.

Also on May 25, you can head out to Bluegill Boat Launch for Canoe Mobile Festival With Wilderness Inquiry, a free event full of canoeing and outdoor fun. Participants will navigate the water in a 24-foot canoe, fish, and learn about the different water bugs they will encounter. Gear is provided and no experience is necessary. Pre-registration is required.

During Memorial Day weekend in Flint, enjoy the 5th Annual Beats X BBQ Weekend. From May 24-26 Beats X Beer is hosting events downtown to celebrate Memorial Day weekend. Events include a cocktail social on Friday, a community field day on Saturday, and the main event, Beats X BBQ with food and music at Kearsley Park. On May 27, celebrate the 28th Annual City of Burton’s Memorial Day Celebration which brings a full day of family fun culminating in fireworks at dusk. The events begin with a 5K at Atherton High School, then there is competitive cornhole, a car show, live music, and more.

Finally, if you are looking for more Memorial Day weekend fun, head to Swartz Creek Hometown Days. This annual festival features an expo tent, a carnival, the Swartz Creek Idol competition, a parade, a mobile zoo, and a fireworks display to close things out.

It may not be summer yet, but the events and festivals are in full swing and ready for families to enjoy this month.
