“We have great facilities,” says the Director of Golf for Sugarbush, Eric Trevino. “As soon as you pull down the drive, you see Potter Lake, and the entrance itself boasts a grander scale golf course. We have a championship golf course here with bent grass fairways and bent grass hybrid for the tee boxes and greens.”
Named the #10 top public golf course in the nation by Golf Pass golfers, Sugarbush was designed by PGA Life member Larry Mancour and features a challenge that is worth chasing. Getting up to speed can be as easy as hitting the sports simulator to warm up and get your swing loose. The simulators are in a separate area near their restaurant, Stix, and offer a space for up to 10 people to get drinks and food and have some fun. The simulators also offer football, hockey, zombie dodgeball, basketball, and more, but golf is the star of this show.
And when it comes to golf, Sugarbush knows exactly how to dial things in to create the perfect golfing experience.
“You have to make sure you have the proper staff to make sure the operation of the golf course is running the same way every day,” says Trevino.
From the person who gets your golf cart to the marshals who give out course tips and make sure that each round moves along in a timely manner to the groundskeepers who make certain that the course maintains its quality and challenge, care goes into every aspect of the day-to-day operations.
Situated on Potter Lake, the course welcomes nature and can inspire visitors with its greens, fairways, and surroundings. The course received four stars from Golf Digest and was ranked #6 on the Michigan Monster courses by Michigan Golf Magazine. You’ll find a course that will remind you of other classics, but which will uniquely challenge your skills.
One of the newer amenities at Sugarbush is the Top Tracer Practice facility, which offers golfers the opportunity to analyze their technique with cutting-edge technology. An exciting feature all its own, there are also several games and practice techniques you can try out once you buy a bucket of balls. The games vary from practice to a long drive contest, closest to the pin, and even the ability to play virtual golf courses.
“You can go right up to the monitor, hit start, and start a practice session. You can play a round of golf if you’d like,” says Trevino. “If you’re a beginner, sometimes that’s a better thing, to start on the practice range and hit these shots.”
If you are looking to hone your game, there are three golf instructors who can give you personalized lessons. They offer junior packages, adult packages, and even one-hour sessions.
“You may come in one day and see them (the golf instructors) and be able to talk to them and have them guide you on your journey with the game,” says Trevino. “Whether you’re a beginner, or you find yourself in a bad habit, or maybe you have an outing the next day and you feel like a lesson is going to help your team win the title, they’re there to help,” Trevino says.
Everything at Sugarbush is about giving visitors a memorable experience. Beyond the golf course and simulators, Stix restaurant offers delicious food, there is space for weddings and special occasions, and many events welcome the public to take part in.
