Fall is a wonderful time in Flint & Genesee and this year is no different with places to go and shows to see, there are a lot of options for you. Whether it’s going through a haunted attraction, visiting a park, or seeing a show, there is plenty to do and more than enough to fill a weekend this October.

Spend a rocking overnight Oct. 4-5

If you are looking for some fall fun, then you’re in the right place. Make your plans for early October and get ready for adventure. On Oct. 4 start a night out with a quick bite at one of the many great restaurants in the area. Perhaps in downtown Flint at Churchill’s Food & Spirits, Sauce Italian American Kitchen, Blackstone’s Smokehouse, or the new restaurant Sweetwater Tavern. As a bonus, if you’re in the area on Oct. 26, Churchill’s is offering a Witches Brunch!

From there you’ll head to The Machine Shop Concert Lounge just a few miles away to see the country-fueled sounds of Tennessee Whiskey. Performing along with Tennessee Whiskey is a Chris Stapleton Experience band so you’re bound to be moving and shaking the night away. If you aren’t interested in country music, you can head to the Flint Repertory Theatre to catch Godspell on Oct. 4 and enjoy some classic theater with a unique twist – this rendition is performed in a pool.

Make it a weekend of fun by booking a room for the night at one of the great nearby locations, like the Hilton Garden Inn Flint Downtown.

The next day, start with some breakfast locally before you head to Porter’s Orchard for a walk through a corn maze, out to pick apples, and then a hayride and find the perfect pumpkin. From there, you can go to one of the many wonderful eateries to prepare for the evening. On Saturday night, make plans to see some hockey. Head to the Dort Financial Center to catch the Flint Firebirds as they face Sarnia.

After the game, you can stop by a local eatery to get a quick bite or drink and then head home to rest after a very busy weekend.

Have a spooky weekend of fun Oct. 18-20

If you are more of a fan of Halloween fun, there are options for you as well. Stay locally and have a weekend of good-natured frights and so much more.

Friday night you can start the night with a bite to eat, perhaps at Sam’s Italian Restaurant, El Portrero, or one of the many nearby restaurants. From there you’ll head to Spooky Trails and take a haunted hayride through zombies, monsters, and creatures of the night. You can even dare the dead on a Zombie Hunter Hayride if you have the nerve.

After that, you can stop in Fenton for The Howling haunted trail. Head through a haunted trail that will chill the blood and leave you breathless. What you won’t have to do though, is wait in line, as you are free to check out the food trucks and beverage tent until your number is up.

After you catch your breath, you can head for home or try one of the great local hotels where you can get some rest before the fun resumes on Saturday.

Saturday start the day with a great breakfast at Brother’s Brunch House in Burton or The Pig and the Hen in Swartz Creek. Then take off to For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum for their Fall Color Rides at For-Mar where you’ll get to take a leisurely ride through the nature preserve to take in the changing leaves. After some lunch, you can go to Flushing Farms and Get Lost in Our Corn Maze as you venture into one of three corn mazes and search for the exit. Have a hot donut and sweet cider. Visit the animals. Take a hayride or a ride in a barrel around a rugged track. Or just enjoy the afternoon before heading to the night’s fun.

You’ll want to stop somewhere for a quick bite and since the evening will be in downtown Flint, any of the city’s great restaurants are perfect. After dinner, you’ll head to the FIM Capitol Theatre for Serial Killers: With Dr. Scott Bonn, a thrilling lecture about serial killers from someone who has sat face-to-face with some of the most notorious ones alive.

These are just a few weekend adventures you can do in Flint & Genesee. There are many orchards, pumpkin patches, tours, concerts, theatre productions, and more to enjoy. Whatever you choose to do this October, you have had a great weekend of fall fun and have made memories that will last forever. Plan your trip now and get ready for a thrill.
