Small businesses such as retail stores and restaurants can be a driver for tourism and travel. According to US Travel two of the top leisure travel activities for U.S. domestic travelers include shopping and fine dining. At Explore Flint & Genesee, we know that local small businesses are some of the best kept secrets in Flint & Genesee.

For this reason, the division is joining the Flint & Genesee Chamber in celebrating Small Business Month.

Modeled on National Small Business Week (May 2-8), established by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) more than 50 years ago, the Chamber decided to dedicate a whole month to acknowledge the critical contributions of entrepreneurs and small business owners to the local economy.

To help promote the month, Explore Flint & Genesee will be sharing stories from local small businesses through our social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Flint & Genesee locals and avid friends can help spread the word, too. As part of the campaign, the Chamber launched a webpage to promote the monthlong observance. It includes profiles of local small business owners, a calendar of events, and a social media toolkit for business owners and patrons. This webpage can be found at flintandgenesee.org/smallbusiness.

Additionally, businesses and customers can share their own small business stories during the month by using the hashtag #SupportFlintGenesee. These stories will be curated on the Flint & Genesee Small Business Month webpage and may be shared on Explore Flint & Genesee social media pages.

Finally, the best way to celebrate Flint & Genesee Small Business Month is by supporting the area businesses. Find your new favorite business by exploring our restaurant, shopping and attraction listings on our website.
