The winds can blow very cold during the blustery winter months and keeping warm can be a challenge no matter how many layers you wear. Sometimes you just need some hot, hearty soup to keep the cold at bay. Luckily there are a lot of fantastic options to not only keep you warm but to keep you well fed and happy as well.  

Flint’s Hoffman’s Deco Deli, while featuring sandwiches, also offers a wide selection of soups as well. Cactus Chili, Chicken & Wild Rice, Seafood Gumbolya, Chicken Pot Pie, and even Vegetable Beef. There are a lot of soups to choose from, but you’ll want to check availability because with the winter here, some soups may run out faster than others.  

While you’re in Flint you can stop at Flint Farmers’ Market and head over to Steady Eddy’s Cafe for one of their homemade soups. Made fresh, their Vegan Chili, Turkey Chili are always available, with Thai Chicken, and Cheesy Potato Ham being two of their rotating soups you can find there that will fill your belly and put a smile on your face and make you forget all about the chill in the wind.  

Panera Bread in Flint Township or Fenton is home to a wide variety of soups that will make you think you made them yourself. Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup, Cream of Chicken & Wild Rice Soup, Bistro French Onion Soup, Creamy Tomato Soup, Broccoli Cheddar Mac & Cheese, Turkey Chili, or Vegetarian Autumn Squash Soup, or maybe just a cup or bowl of delicious macaroni & cheese.  

Just a little down from Panera Bread, you will find McAlister’s Deli which offers sandwiches and soup to go with them. Choose from Country Potato, Chicken Tortilla, Chili in normal and veggie varieties, Broccoli and Cheddar, or Homestyle Lasagna.  

Davison’s Bear Soup Deli offers freshly made soups that are always changing but you can find Tequila and Black Bean, Turkey and Rice, Cheesy Broccoli, Stuffed Pepper, and Potato and Ham to name just some of them.  

If you love French Onion Soup, then you’ll want to head to The Laundry in Fenton, where it has become a can’t miss item with every meal but if you’d prefer something else there’s always a soup of the day available to pair with whatever your main course is.  

Goodrich has the Neighborhood Sandwich Shack which offers freshly made sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, baked goods, and wonderful soups. Some of the soups they offer are Chicken Corn, Chowder, Tomato, Beef Noodle, Ham & Potato, Creamy Wild Rice, Chicken Tortilla and so many more.  

It’s not easy staying warm during the most frigid months of the year but Flint & Genesee is home to amazing soups and it’s just a matter of what soup speaks to you that day. But no matter what you get, it’s sure to be delicious.
