Every season is a great time to get out to the Genesee County Parks to enjoy their wonderful programming and now their spring activities are just getting started. From hikes and outdoor exploration to learning about nature’s many wonders, there is much to see and explore.

 

April 1 to April 4 – Spring Break Camp

Students will have a wide variety of fun at For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum’s Spring Break Camp. Learn about nature’s pranksters, become nature detectives, explore art and the outdoors, and learn about nature’s superheroes.

April 2 - Nature Storytime – Toad Time

For-Mar hosts this event that will introduce students to the world of toads and what makes them so special.

April 3 - Nature at the Library: Spring Break Fun!

This event, held at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library, will have educators from For-Mar hosting a meet and greet for some of the reserve’s animal ambassadors.

April 5 - Spring Migration - Bird Hike

This hike will focus on birdwatching as participants hike the trails at For-Mar and look for signs of early migrating birds.

April 6 and 13 - Sunday Stroll: BioBlitz Edition

This event, held at Atlas County Park, will have For-Mar naturalists leading a hike searching out plants, insects, and animals to add to a community science project.

April 6 - Photography Part 4: Aperture

For-Mar hosts this event, which is part of a photography series that will help participants get more confident with their cameras and take better pictures.

April 8 - Knee High Naturalist: Reptiles

Children who are interested in reptiles or who want to learn more about them will love this introduction to these cold-blooded creatures.

April 9 - Get Your Garden Ready: Soil Health with MSUE

Learn the basics of soil and its health during this fascinating deep dive into all the dirt on dirt with Michigan State University Extension.

April 11 - Full Moon Hike - Pink Moon

Head out to For-Mar to see the Pink Full Moon and enjoy the park after dark.

April 12 - Nature Photography Hike

Enjoy the beauty of Atlas County Park during this spring hike with many opportunities to snap pictures along the way.

April 15 - Knee High Naturalist: Dino Dig

Children are invited to come out to For-Mar to learn about dinosaurs and participate in a dig.

April 15 - Outdoor Explorers: Eggs Everywhere

Learn about eggs of all kinds at For-Mar.

April 16 - Nature Storytime - All about Squirrels

Derek the squirrel welcomes you on an adventure to learn about squirrels and all the fun they find themselves in.

April 16 - Get Your Garden Ready: Indoor Plant Propagation with MSUE

This hands-on class held at For-Mar will teach you all about the propagation of houseplants, and participants will take home their own indoor plants.

April 17 - Nature at the Library: Sticky, Slimy, Bubbly, Animal Armor!

Families with young children are invited to the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library to learn about how insects protect themselves.

April 19 - Garden Egg Hunt and Natural Dyes

Kids of all ages are welcome at For-Mar for this old-fashioned egg hunt and introduction to natural egg dyes.

April 19 - Frog and Toad Night Hike

Learn how to identify frogs and toads before heading out for a night hike at For-Mar as you help collect data on local amphibians.

April 21 - Introducing Nature into Infant and Toddler Classrooms

This class will be held at For-Mar and is aimed at early childhood educators to help them with methods of teaching nature to toddlers and young children.

April 22 - Knee High Naturalist: Fairytale Science

Children can come out to For-Mar dressed as their favorite storybook characters to dive into the science of fairytales.

April 22 - Outdoor Explorers: Earth Day Explorers

Celebrate Earth Day at this fun event that teaches how to protect the planet.

April 26 - Dear Earth: Literacy in Nature Resource Fair / Dear Earth: Literacy in Nature Hikes & Guest Readers

Come to For-Mar for a literacy event that will feature guest readers, community resources, a pop-up book shop, and hikes.

April 27 - Friends of Fungi at For-Mar

For-Mar will be holding this series of educational field experiences featuring an introduction to mushroom and fungal species identification through the seasons.

April 27 - Beekeeping 102: Inspections and Splits

Bees and beekeeping are the subjects of the day at For-Mar in this extension of their Beekeeping 101 class.

April 29 - Knee High Naturalist: Animal Babies

Children ages 3-6 will listen to the story “Lost in the Woods” and learn about how baby animals survive in the wild.

April 29 - Outdoor Explorers: Wetland Wonders

Learn about the wetlands and their many inhabitants at For-Mar.
