The start of a new year offers many opportunities, one of those being the ability to reassess one’s health and wellbeing. As people start to think about new workout regimens, cleanses, and ways to de-stress and de-clutter their lives, another way people are starting the new year is with Dry January. Dry January is a movement that encourages participants to abstain from drinking alcohol for one month to re-focus on health and detoxify. Just because you are taking part in Dry January though, it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the fun and flavor of a night out – and Flint & Genesee has several options for a good, sober time.

Heading out to Fenton you can stop in at the Fenton Winery & Brewery/Dream Machine Distillery for a delicious meal that can be paired with one of their wonderful mocktails. You might try the newly unveiled Tandem Bicycle, which will give you a refreshing beverage to go with your meal.

Grand Blanc’s Estelle Public House is a beautiful setting for a nice meal with offerings of salads, shareable meals, and a wide array of entrees and brunch options. With their option of mocktails, along with the rest of their menu, this makes for a great night out with friends or loved ones where you won’t feel like you’re missing out on any of the excitement.

For a night of nostalgia and gaming, you can head to The Last Level Bar & Games in Fenton. There you’ll find an eclectic mix of board games, retro arcade games, console video games, air hockey, and much, much more. Along with the games, there’s a kitchen to load up on food and lots of non-alcoholic drinks to wet your whistle. Throw in the occasional trivia night and you have the perfect stop for the gang during a night out.

If you just need to get some things to take home for the party, then you can stop at the new market Queens’ Provisions just outside of downtown Flint. Grab the makings for a charcuterie board and load up on mocktails like the Blind Tiger line, featuring canned drinks that will keep the party low-stressed and refreshed. If you prefer not to host, you can pop in for one of the many events Queens’ offers and make some new friends while you’re at it.

While you’re downtown, you can stop into Sauce Italian American Kitchen for a delicious meal inspired by Italian classics and wash it all down with one of the new mocktails they’ve introduced. Try a Blueberry pho-jito, a Pina Colada Mocktail, White Russian Spy, or one of their non-alcoholic beers or wines.

Beyond January, if you’d like a sober night out to meet up with some friends you haven’t met yet, you may take a look at Flint City Sober’s Instagram page where they list their monthly meet ups. These are casual get-togethers that offer support and friendship and are just a good place to meet good people. Whatever your goal for making it a dry January and a better you, there are a lot of places to look for that new start or a good time in Flint & Genesee.
