The holidays are a time for family, friends, and in Flint & Genesee, you can celebrate Christmas in a way that creates memories and new traditions.
Top Hill Farms
Head out to Goodrich’s Top Hill Farms for a tree, and start the day at Porter’s Orchard for some cider and donuts to fuel you for the rest of your day. If you go out there on Dec. 6 you can meet Mr. & Mrs. Claus and hear carolers at their Christmas at the Orchard event.
For a heartier meal head to Trio Tavern & Grill for a bite to eat, or to the Neighborhood Sandwich Shack, and pop over to Cottage Used Books next door to do some shopping.
Heading out for a tree on a Saturday will give you a chance to stop by the Davison Farmers Market for lunch, a treat, or some shopping. The market often has craft shows on Saturdays, so bring your list and find the perfect gift for someone special.
As a bonus, you can make your way to Mini Mitten Acres for their Christmas on the Farm event on Dec. 7 to meet their animals, and maybe even Santa Claus.
When you get to Top Hill Farms they offer a free hayride to go out to pick your tree, and once you’ve chosen it and have cut it down, you’ll take your tree to a nearby warming house where you can drop it off and can catch a ride back, get some hot cocoa, and wait for the tree to be processed for you.
Windy Hill Tree Farm in Clio
Heading to Clio to get yourself a tree? Stop in at Andy’s Country Chef first for a down-home, delicious breakfast. From there, head over to Piechnik’s Greenhouse to shop for holiday décor, or pop by Paradise Vintage, Antiques and More to browse their vintage decorations.
On your way to Windy Hill, you can also get your tickets to a matinee performance of “The Only Christmas Pageant in Town” being put on by Clio Cast and Crew, Inc.
Windy Hill Tree Farm offers precut trees, as well as choose-and-cut options with free baling, shaking, and drilling. While there, you can also shop for their homemade wreaths, roping, and grave blankets. On weekends, you can plan to meet Santa and have a free hayride, with concessions for sale as well.
Whispering Pines Tree Farms in Flushing
Start the day early in Flushing, with a stop out to the Trackside Cafe for breakfast, and fill up as you plan the rest of your day. Check out Amaizing Bookbee and shop for some books, or head over to Sullivan’s Irish Alley and shop for some Irish clothing, or home and garden décor. Warm things up with a drink from Evers & Ollie before heading out to the main event.
Plan your trip for Dec. 4 or 5 and enjoy Flushing’s Candlewalk, where you can ice skate, get some food truck food, check out a living nativity, do some shopping, or enjoy some of the other events.
Whispering Pines Tree Farm, Inc. in Flushing, offers live trees that they will trim, bind, and load for you. You can choose from several pre-cut options, or tell them what you are looking for, and they can cut one that’s perfect for you. They also offer garland and swags.
As the snow flies and the temperature drops, there’s nothing better than celebrating a bit of an old-fashioned Christmas. With several different places offering fresh Christmas trees and plenty of places to visit while you are in the area, the magic of the season is waiting for you. Visit the Explore Flint & Genesee events calendar to discover all the holiday fun you can have.
