Juneteenth is here once more. During this time of remembrance and celebration, there are many events to mark the holiday and gather with loved ones in and around Flint.
May 31| A Day at the Lake
Bethesda Temple Church will host this event to help children become familiar with fishing during this fun, and informative day.
Jun. 1| Saints and Spirits
Held at Metropolitan Church, this event reflects on the importance of the Black church in Black American life and will feature education and entertainment.
Jun. 3| Protect Yourself!
Come to this session and learn about advanced life planning such as power of attorney and patient advocate designation.
Jun. 6| A Heritage and Legacy of the Flint Community
Enjoy the history and legends of Flint with a spoken word performance by Mama Sol, a fashion show celebrating African American heritage, music from the Juneteenth live band, and much more.
Jun. 7| A Day at the Lake
A fun day on the lake at Camp A.R.T.I.S. on Shay Lake with a fishing derby.
Jun. 7| Juneteenth Kickoff
The kickoff happens at Kearsley Park with fun, food, music, vendors, and activities.
Jun. 8| Ubuntu & Freedom: A Juneteenth Celebration at the Urban Renaissance Center
Live music, food, vendors, and activities in the spirit of Ubuntu – “I am because we are.”
Jun. 8| Historical War Stories
Learn about the former slaves who became elite Civil War assault troops at the New McCree Theatre through slave narrative interviews.
Jun. 9| B.U.S.T./Healing Circle
Join this holistic healing circle for meditation, affirmation, and love.
Jun. 11| Reparations Summit
This is a faith-based discussion of how to repair wealth inequity among descendants of enslaved African Americans.
Jun. 12| Community-Based Public Health Caucus
Zoom meeting. The Spirit of Juneteenth Virtual Men’s Health and Wellness Summit will feature community leaders, educators, and subject matter experts from around the nation.

Jun. 13| Ujamaa Market
This will be a tour of the new North Flint Food Market with vendors on hand.
Jun. 14| Harambee Market
A breakfast of “pulling together” at Higher Quality of Life Ministries Vision Center as guests fill their plates and souls.
Jun. 14| Dr. E. Hill Deloney Scholarship Reception
This reception will honor the life and memory of Dr. E Hill Deloney, remembered as “Mother De Loney,” with the scholarship meant to continue her legacy of fighting systemic racism and spreading knowledge and history.
Jun. 15| Father’s Day Backyard Barbecue
All fathers are welcome at this event and are encouraged to bring their children. There will be dinner offered with resource information about aid, information, and comfort to those that need it available.
Jun. 16| Freedom School Youth Dinner
This tribute to the children of slaughtered children in South Africa in 1976 as they fought Apartheid, will be led by children. Dinner will be provided.
Jun. 17 Legacy & Literacy Time
Live music and Afrocentric foods will be offered during this event about legacy with a twist of literacy.
Jun. 18| Financial Literacy Justice
There will be business consultants, credit repair specialists, and financial advisors on hand as well as vendors and food trucks for those interested in learning about being an entrepreneur or starting and managing a small business.
Jun. 19| Flint Juneteenth Celebration
Max Branon Park hosts this event featuring a parade and gathering.
This musical celebration will take place at the University of Michigan-Flint Community Park.
Jun. 20| Black Lives Matter – Flint Special
A fireside chat with historians.
Jun. 21| Juneteenth @ the Flint Cultural Center
The entire Cultural Center takes part in this event with a Freedom March followed by activities, music, vendors, and much more.
Jun. 22| Juneteenth Family Reunion
Members of the Traditional Flint Juneteenth Celebration Committee are invited for a day of fun and reflection at Brennan Park.
