The George and Temple Smith Family are going to be ‘Tourists in Their Hometown’ on Saturday, July 20 along with their entire family reunion. The Smiths will join hundreds of other tourists from across the region for the Flint & Genesee Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Be a Tourist in Your Home Town from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The event provides a great way to show off hometown sites and activities to local and out-of-town family members for only $1 per person.

The tour will be serviced by designated buses courtesy of event co-sponsor Mass Transportation Authority (MTA), making it easy to stay in the tour ‘loop’ while visiting the Flint Cultural Center attractions, the UM- Flint Recreation Center, the Flint Farmers’ Market, Capitol Theater, Whaley Historical House Museum and downtown restaurants and shops.

Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce says that Be a Tourist in Your Home Town is a uniquely Flint experience that allows the community to enjoy the jewels of the region.

“When visitors come to the region there are places they often ask to see, but many people who have lived in the region their entire lives have never experienced those attractions,” said Herman.  “I encourage everyone to take advantage of this rare chance to enjoy some of the richness our community has to offer in a one-day tour.”

“Be a Tourist provides a unique experience for people in Flint and Genesee County to feel like tourists in one of this state’s most interesting cities,” said Cheryl DeFrain, Director of the CVB. “This is a great chance to see the progress in our region.”
