On August 10 you can be a Tourist in Your Hometown, where adventure awaits. Whether you choose to take a walking tour of the downtown district or head out on one of the MTA-provided buses for the What’s New tour, an Arts & Culture tour, a Family tour, or the History tour, you’re sure to be excited and surprised at what the area has to offer. The following are examples of what you’ll find during your tour.

The History Tour –

Starting at Brush Park in downtown Flint, the History tour highlights various sites that offer a glimpse into Flint & Genesee’s rich history.

Mott-Warsh Collection Gallery – The Mott-Warsh Collection Gallery is a private collection of fine art created by artists of the African diaspora and others who reflect on it. Featuring art from the Mott-Warsh collection, the gallery’s pieces are as challenging as they are revelatory. As part of the art walk, they offer regular special exhibitions as well as workshops.

Flint Farmers’ Market – The award-winning Flint Farmers’ Market is far more than just a place to buy your fruits and veggies. The space is home to many local restaurants, small businesses, and events. Tourists can stop in and get everything they need to make a great meal, from the first course through dessert and a coffee. The market is truly a hub where food and culture meet and mix.

University of Michigan-Flint, Frances Willson Thompson Library – This beautiful library is not just a home for higher learning and research to inspire architectural wonder. The library is available to both students and the public (for a fee) and offers vast resources for research projects.

St. Paul Episcopal Church – This historic church is a testament to the power of faith and architecture with its high ceilings and stained-glass windows with Biblical scenes. Along with their scheduled services, the church is also home to special faith events and musical performances.

Hilton Garden Inn – The Hilton Garden Inn has garnered recognition for its dedication to service and that is clear as soon as you enter the space. For those looking to stay in the middle of the city, guests will find comfortable lodging, and those looking for a night out will find great food at Sauce Italian American Kitch, or drinks at Simmer Rooftop Lounge.

Greater Flint Arts Council – The Greater Flint Arts Council is the birthplace of Flint’s monthly art walk, and it is that sort of dedication to community art that has made it a beloved gallery. Featuring exhibits that change every month, visitors will get to see many different types of art and themes presented by established and emerging artists.

The Ferris Wheel – The Ferris Wheel has become a hub for new Flint businesses looking for space to develop and grow. The building offers start-ups and smaller businesses the opportunity to have a professional office in the heart of the city and coworking space for those who need somewhere to collaborate with their partners.

The FIM Capitol TheatreThe FIM Capitol Theatre is the premiere space to see entertainment in downtown Flint. The theatre was recently restored to its full glory, featuring vaulted ceilings, and a look influenced by classic Italian architecture, and features nationally touring performers and productions regularly.

Whaley Historic House Museum – The Whaley Historic House Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the life of the Whaley family that once lived in the home, with great effort made to retain the Victorian look and feel. Beautiful in its own right, the home is a trove of treasures for fans of local history.

Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School- The Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School is one of the largest art galleries in the state, and it’s easy to see why. After undergoing a recent expansion, there are several galleries and exhibits to enjoy in the space, as well as a large theater and special exhibitions.

FIM WhitingThe FIM Whiting is a beautiful performance center in the heart of the cultural center that often features theatrical productions, concerts, and family entertainment, and is home to many Flint Symphony Orchestra performances.

Flint Children’s Museum – The Flint Children's Museum offers families the opportunity to learn and play together in a space that is accessible and exciting. With different learning exhibitions, an outdoor area, and space for parties, the museum is fun for everyone.

Glenwood Cemetery – Glenwood Cemetery is home to some of Flint & Genesee’s most famous families. A walk through the cemetery will offer visitors a look through the past as well as the opportunity to see the beauty of the ornate headstones and grave markers.

Downtown Statues - See some of Flint's pioneers in statue form in one of several areas where they are on display. These statues commemorate those that helped to make Flint as rich, and vibrant as it is. You will find statues of automotive pioneers, the first Black mayor of the city, and the founders of General Motors.

Latinx Technology & Community Center – The Latinx Technology & Community Center is a non-profit community center that offers classes, language services, and special events.
