When Be a Tourist in Your Hometown returns to Flint & Genesee on Saturday, August 10, tourists will be able to take a bus from downtown Flint for their choice of a History tour, an Arts & Culture tour, a Family tour, a tour of What’s New, or a Walking tour.

The Walking Tour

From a rallying point at Brush Park, tourists will experience several downtown Flint highlights that show off the history, architecture, and excitement of what the city has to offer.

Buckham Gallery – For 40 years, Buckham Gallery has been home to independent artists and creatives. While its address has changed over the years, its mission to serve both art and artist alike has not. The gallery hosts regular art exhibitions, musicians, spoken word performers, and performance art, and has become part of the monthly art walk downtown.

Mott-Warsh Collection Gallery – The Mott-Warsh Collection, based in Flint, Michigan, is a private collection of fine art created by artists of the African diaspora and others who reflect on it. Featuring art from the Mott-Warsh collection, the gallery’s pieces are as challenging as they are revelatory. As part of the art walk, they offer regular special exhibitions as well as workshops.

Flint Farmers’ Market – The award-winning Flint Farmers’ Market is far more than just a place to buy your fruits and veggies. University of Michigan-Flint, Frances Willson Thompson Library – This beautiful library is not just a home for higher learning and research to inspire architectural wonder. The library is available to both students and the public (for a fee) and offers vast resources for research projects.

St. Paul Episcopal Church – This historic church is a testament to the power of faith and architecture, with its high ceilings, stained-glass windows, and Biblical scenes. Along with their scheduled services, the church is also home to special faith events and musical performances.

Comma Bookstore & Social Hub – This community bookstore and event space offers not just a selection of books for sale but a place for people to meet. Comma often hosts special events like concerts, lectures, or spoken word poetry nights.

Hilton Garden Inn – The Hilton Garden Inn has garnered recognition for its dedication to service and that is clear as soon as you enter the space. For those looking to stay in the middle of the city, guests will find comfortable lodging, and those looking for a night out will find great food at Sauce Italian American Kitch, or drinks at Simmer Rooftop Lounge.

Downtown Murals - While on your walking tour, be sure to stop by the many beautiful murals that have been painted be renowned street artists as part of a public art program in the city.
