Friday
Start your adventure by checking into a hotel room on Friday (Insider Tip: Use the booking feature above to ensure you receive the best available rate). Head to Hill Road, just off US-23, and you will find several hotels offering a wide range of amenities and comfortable accommodations. The area also boasts a Meijer, Costco, and other nearby stores, in case you need something during your stay.
After checking in, you can grab dinner just down Hill Road at Blondie’s Food & Spirits, where you can get delicious comfort food in a cozy environment. You can also stop by the Redwood Steakhouse & Brewery for upscale dining. After dinner, head over to the Dort Financial Center to catch a Flint Firebirds game. The Firebirds are Flint’s Ontario Hockey League team, featuring many players who could eventually make their way to the NHL. After the game, head back to your hotel for some rest, because the weekend is just getting started!
On Saturday, you’ll set off for breakfast down the street at the Hill Road Grille for traditional fare, or off to The Pig and the Hen, where you will have an elevated breakfast made of quality ingredients. Whether you want something simple and classic or a special breakfast, you’ll find it at the Pig and the Hen. After breakfast, you’ll head down the street to 810 Sports Complex for an afternoon of ice skating. After some fun on the ice, you can warm up with some coffee, hot cocoa, and perhaps a bite to eat at Fireside Coffee Co., a short drive away from 810 Sports Complex.
Next, you’ll be on your way to Christmas Holiday Magic at Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad. Enjoy a journey back in time to this recreation of a 19th-century village, with historical buildings from all around Genesee County. Here you will take in winter sights and the brilliant lights, and enjoy an old-fashioned holiday atmosphere. You will need to make reservations ahead of time, but for dinner, you can enjoy a delicious Christmas Dinner Buffet and talk over the fun of the day. From here, it’s back to your hotel for one more night’s sleep before you wind up your weekend trip on Sunday.
As Sunday dawns, it’s time to get everything together and check out of your hotel. Once you are packed up and back on the road, you can head to Brother’s Brunch House for another unforgettable meal before heading out for one last fun day.
Just a few minutes away from Brother’s is For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum, where you can take a winter hike along the long, winding pathways, or snowshoe instead.
You can end your day with a trip to the Sloan Museum of Discovery to enjoy the history of Flint & Genesee, let the kids enjoy the interactive play areas, and check out the special exhibit. And for more fun for the kids, you can head to the Flint Children's Museum, where learning and play meet to spur a child’s imagination.
