Looking for a job? Whether you’re a high school student or parent, there are several local resources that can help prepare you for the job market and connect you with local employers. A few examples include:

Career Edge

Career Edge is designed to give participants, ages 18 and up, the skills needed to get and keep a job. The workshop series is based on targeted instruction in four areas: laying the foundation; job search preparation; interview preparation; and keeping a job. Participants will learn about business etiquette, resume development, interview do’s and don’ts and more. Career Edge consists of four workshops, each held for three hours. Individuals who attend all four workshops will be invited to the Chamber’s job fairs.

Flint & Genesee Chamber Job Fairs

Each year, the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce hosts two job fairs that are open to the general public, as well as Career Edge and TeenQuest alumni ages 18 and older. Job applicants are encouraged to bring several copies of their resume to the job fairs as they will interview for a variety of entry-level positions. The next job fair is tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 28. To register in advance, complete the online application.

Flint/Genesee Job Corps Center

Job Corps is available to young people, ages 16-24. Participants can receive hands-on training for bricklaying, carpentry, clinical nursing assistants, dental assistants, hotel and lodging, office administration, painting, retail sales, security and protective services. Students receive a small stipend every other week, and will receive $1,200 once they finish the program – with a trade and high school diploma or GED. Students are also eligible to receive housing, meals, child care, basic medical care and free drivers’ education classes.

Each listing provides detailed information regarding requirements, responsibilities and application instructions.

Summer Youth Initiative

TeenQuest graduates, ages 14-19, are invited to apply for the 2017 Summer Youth Initiative Job Fair, which will be held Saturday, April 29.
