PTAC hosts MDOT Seminar focused on Minority- and Women-owned Business Certification

Genesee Regional PTAC(FLINT, MICH., MAY 6)  Minority- and Women-owned businesses interested in the Michigan Unified Certification Program can gain all the knowledge required at an upcoming workshop.  On Tuesday, May 17th the Procurement and Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce will host a Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) workshop on the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification process. The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Regional Chamber in the Mott Board Room.

The workshop, which focuses on certification for Minority-owned businesses (MBE) or Women-owned businesses (WBE) as part of the DBE process, will provide key information required to participate in the Michigan Unified Certification Program (MUCP).  The program is designed to provide a one –stop process for certification.

According to Dustin Frigy, Director of PTAC for the Regional Chamber, there are a wealth of opportunities that businesses can take advantage of through MDOT.  He says working with state departments can provide incredible growth and diversification for businesses.

“If your business does work near road construction, conducts real estate appraisals, handles highway project cleanup or a host of other areas used by MDOT, then you are missing the boat if you are not certified,” said Frigy. “This seminar gives you what you need to know to gain DBE status from work category prequalification through certification.  Minority- or Woman-owned businesses that fit the bill should absolutely attend the seminar.”

MDOT is currently looking for businesses that specialize in the following areas:

  • Road construction
  • Real estate appraisal
  • Surveying
  • Bridge work
  • Pavement marking
  • Landscaping
  • Asphalt and concrete paving and repair
  • Overhead and permanent traffic signs
  • Micro surfacing
  • Highway project cleanup
  • Road design
  • Other areas used by MDOT

Attendees will also learn about the services and resources the Regional Chamber PTAC has available to help with the contracting process.  There is no cost to attend the workshop, but registration is required.  To register contact Ermena Constantine at (248) 967-0570, extension 210 or .  The Regional Chamber is located at 519 S. Saginaw St. in downtown Flint.
