TeenQuest Grads Available for Area Companies

Companies looking to employ student and young adult employees in the coming months, should consider graduates of the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce TeenQuest program.

TeenQuest is a free-afterschool pre-employment and leadership program designed to prepare youth for future success.  The 5-week training program provides youth ages 14-18, and in grades 9-12 with the basics of teamwork, business etiquette, work ethics, communication, goal setting and conflict resolution.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources recently met with more than 130 TeenQuest graduates to recruit summer employees.  According to Rhetta Hunyady, Group Vice President of Operations and Employer Education and Training Connection, the DNR is one of many employers looking to hire TeenQuest graduates.

“I was pleased that the DNR approached us about hiring TeenQuest graduates for summer employment,” said Hunyady.  “We’ve been told by previous employers that TeenQuest graduates make excellent employees.  It is a great thing for the region that this talented group of teens has been prepared for employment through the program and we encourage organizations in the region to take advantage of the opportunity to hire TeenQuest graduates.”

For-profit employers interested in hiring TeenQuest graduates for the summer months as part of the Summer Youth Initiative are eligible for a 50 percent match of the students’ salary for the first 90 days of employment.  Nonprofit employers compete for funding to pay 100 percent of employing students.
