On Thursday, August 8 Flint will honor its three Olympic Boxing medalists: Claressa Shields the 2012 Women’s Olympic Gold Middleweight Boxing Medalist; Chris Byrd the 1992 Men's Olympic Silver Middleweight Boxing Medalist; and Andre Dirrell the 2004 Men's Olympic Bronze Middleweight Boxing Medalist will be featured in a boxing showcase event at the Connie and Jim John Recreation Center at Kettering University. The event begins at 6 p.m.

In the main event, Shields will compete in her first hometown bout since the Olympics. Her opponent is Alison Greey of the Windsor Amateur Boxing Club. There will also be 10 to 12 bouts between amateur boxers from the Flint area and boxing clubs from neighboring states.

The cost to attend is $40 for VIP seating and $20 general admission. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Claressa Shields Youth Foundation (CSYF).

CSYF is focused on mentoring and creating positive alternatives for youth in Flint by providing activities and programs that promote clean living, encourage a commitment to education and athletics and discourage violence.
